NOTES ON KENTUCKY BLUEGRASS
- Kentucky Bluegrass is the most popular type of lawn grass in the Midwest.
- Proprietary bluegrass varieties are deep green and beautiful.
- Bluegrass can be planted alone or mixed with ryegrass, creeping red fescue, or turf-type tall fescue to provide an excellent lawn.
- Bluegrass does, however, take the most maintenance of any turfgrass. And it will go dormant before ryegrasses and tall fescues.
- Kentucky Bluegrass generally germinates in 20-25 days.
NOTES ON PERENNIAL RYEGRASS
- Improved ryegrass varieties are deep green and durable. They provide the excellent look of a well-maintained fairway on a golf course.
- Newer varieties are selected for enhanced gray leaf spot resistance.
- Ryegrass germinates quickly and provides quick ground cover to hold the soil.
- It often goes dormant after bluegrasses but before tall fescues.
- Ryegrass generally germinates in 7-10 days.
